Such a great thrift store find. More scans to come if you don’t have this one already. The last paragraph of the 31 page book kills me:
In just a few days
he has learned to be
a safe and careful camper.
He has also enjoyed
the beauty of the outdoors.
With his brother, sister,
and parents, Rob now feels
at home in the wilderness.

Love it. I have this book as well. You can always count on National Geographic to have amazing photography. Written by William R. Gray if I’m not mistaken, same chap that wrote “The Pacific Crest Trail” for Nat Geo
So cool… I have this book at home in the “favorite books” section of my office. My parents bought the whole series of these for my sisters and I, and they are a huge part of my early outdoor memories, especially that gear spread…

This looks a great find. This is also great to look at http://nationalgeographicscans.tumblr.com/
A great find, all the Great Camping and Track Basics are there. I am a soldier with the British Army for 22 yrs, still serving in Germany. Even i have found this book very relevant. Some things move on but there are no technologies needed to understand the basics of survival. Thats a really good blog artickle, music to my eyes and ears.
