It’s been several months since I started listening to Josh and Chuck on Stuff You Should Know, and while most of their podcasts aren’t exactly about camping and the outdoors, their episode on the tick, “Why Ticks Suck,” is rather relevant for the coming months. For most of us, spring means camping, and of course, camping can mean ticks. Tuck your pants into your socks and go here to listen for free. It’s #74 on the list.

Ugh, yes! My boyfriend and I each pulled ticks off of ourselves after a quick afternoon walk through the woods. But oh camping, I cannot wait for our first trip of the year!
Ticks spook me out. Here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we are having a rise in deer ticks infected with Lyme disease spreading up from Wisconsin. Cedar swamps and the bush you just gotta check yourself. Feeling those guys crawl up on ya while you are sleeping in your hammock on Lake Superior sure is exciting. Gotta Pay to Play. They have to eat too.
We had a tick nightmare on the Batona trail in New Jersey. We cut the trip short a day. The ticks got in our heads. They were everywhere.
