Grandma Gatewood

Emma Rowena Gatewood, better known as Grandma Gatewood, was the first woman to hike the Appalachian Trail. She did it in 1955 at the age of 67, wearing Keds sneakers and carrying an army blanket, a raincoat, and a plastic shower curtain which she carried in a homemade bag slung over one shoulder.

She’s my hero. I plan to hike the AT when my kids go to college. But probably not in Keds.

This grandma is by far, one of the greatest grandmas to ever live. The wikipedia also stated that she was the first woman to complete the Appalachian trail 3 times and she was 70 something. She rocks.

    Reminds me of Peace Pilgrim.
