Arizona Highways

15 Dec

Arizona Highways is a monthly magazine published by the Arizona Department of Transportation since 1925. It began as an engineering journal dedicated to the state’s road construction and maintenance, but was eventually taken over by Arizona travel tales, stories and photos. The covers of these magazines are some of the best I’ve ever seen, so start looking for them if you haven’t already.

American Highways is still around and has a damn good website full of scenic drive and hiking ideas – perfect, if like me, you’re spending Christmas time in southern Arizona.

Great magazine. As a Tucson native, I always thought it was neat growing up that there was an entire magazine dedicated to the state of Arizona

Hopefully when you come to AZ you get to spend your time in Tucson. Phoenix is such an unfortunate place.

I’m sort of with Mike on Phoenix (that’s why I live in Tucson), though if you’re camping, you won’t be in Phoenix proper. It will be a good time.

I collect old AZ Highways. I just got a shipment of the entire year 1953. It is outstanding. Joseph Muench took a lot of the photographs back then, so if you’re looking for great mid-century AZ photography, he’s the guy to look up.
