Europe ’72
4 Nov
I spent last night getting drunk on a huge bottle of cheap red wine, slovenly walking around the living room playing 6th-grader pentatonic solos to Europe ’72. Whether it really is the band’s best album or because it’s the one that followed me around most of my young adult life, Europe ’72 is the one to have. If there’s something better than “Ramble On Rose” to blast through a shit car stereo on the way to wherever you’re going, then I’m not sure I want to know it.
MP3: Grateful Dead – Ramble On Rose
Argue with me, go ahead. What’s better?

GYBE bro!
Holy fuck, driving an icepick into your ear is more enjoyable than this musical diarrhea. Find something better… anything else will do.
fucking hippie
This is the one that pulled me in. Riding with my parents in rural Vermont as they graciously allowed me to try out my new CD. The Dead suddenly made perfect sense. And to this day the Void feels a little smaller when it’s playing.
I also recommend 9/21/72, as featured on Dick’s Picks 36. It’s not studio-sweetened like Europe ’72, but the band’s on fire, charging through every great song in their catalog (except Brown-Eyed Women, an omission preventing it from being the perfect show).
Thanks for reminding me what to bring on the road this weekend.
ever heard of a little cd called the arista years? disc 2?
Slayer – Raining Blood.
Maybe the next post will say “fucking hessian.” I’d take that as a compliment.
i’m with you brother! this post sealed the deal – CS is my favorite blog on the World Wide Web. thank you.
