New Belgium and Devendra Banhart
6 Oct
If you’ve ever spent some time out west, specifically in Colorado, chances are pretty high that you’ve had a bottle of New Belgium’s Fat Tire before. I’m not sure if it’s the Phish parking lot vibe obsession with Fat Tire or the actual taste I don’t like, but I’ve never been a fan. New Belgium does some good things to help protect the environment in Colorado though, so if you are a fan, keep buying them. Your money is going to a good place and an a eco-conscious company.
But that ain’t the point of this post. I saw Devendra Banhart play last Friday night and it reminded me of two New Belgium/Fat Tire commercials that feature “Noah” and “At The Hop”. They both look more like music videos than commercials – a guy fixes up a vintage bike that resembles the one that adorns the Fat Tire label and takes it for a nighttime ride through the mountains of Colorado. Nothing to do with beer.
The videos are probably over three or four years old, but beautiful and well worth watching if you haven’t already done so. Doesn’t make the beer taste any better unfortunately.
Watch them after the jump…

Ok, I used to love your site, but I can´t believe you would diss Phat Tire bro. My best friend Goat and I just got back from Spokane, Washington and we were drinking heady phat tires the whole time. When I am vibing in the phish lot, it is only phat tire for me. Just ask any bro, Goat knows, Drege knows, and of course, Songspinner knows. I will continue reading your site, but don´t put down a solid beer bro.

get a job hippie freak
Fat Tire tastes malty, and chocolatey and horrible. Amen.
when i lived in wyoming we always referred to fat tire as flat tire. completely and utterly overrated by bougie hippies who dont know shit about beer. gotta be one of the worst, most popular american ambers.
I agree, McGregor.
Fat Tire is not great beer. I never had it until I moved to AZ and I was not impressed. Hoptober, another New Belgium, is much better. NB was a sponsor the Tucson Oktoberfest and Hoptober was a much appreciated alternative to the other bad macros they served up.
this whole thing just really makes me want to go out west
Ok peeps. What is up with the Phat Tire dissing? Are you not phans? Phucking A bro´s. Your all a bunch of corporate swine.
these comment are really buggin! since when is malt or chocolate bad in a beer? just cuz it aint a GD IPA don’t mean it ain’t good! and to call NB a Macro – huh? theres gotta be more hops and flavor in one Fat tire than in a whole case of piss swill Coors or Bud… and down here it TX its the same if not cheaper than the real Macros. and they empties are great for homebrew too… Not saying its the greatest or best beer ever but its good and simple. Also – the Hoptober is freaking good too. as is the 1554. ummm beer….
this is the weirdest thing ever.
I can’t tell if these are serious. Anyway, New Belgium’s a bad brewery. They make very very very weak beer. Gross weak beer. The only way to enjoy it, is to compare it to a Bud or a Coors.
