Colorado

The prickly pears were in full bloom a few miles down the road from the fields of Columbine and Indian Paintbrush. I was all set to sleep in a tent right along side those handsome results of a rainy Colorado spring/summer until a neighbor volunteered their bright orange 1974 VW Camper Bus. Can you say no to an opportunity like that? Yes, you probably could, but there was no way in hell I wasn’t going to fall asleep on that plaid bed. I spent the weekend driving up and down Canyon Road, back and forth from Boulder and Nederland, hiking, watching fireworks, drunkenly sneaking up on a fast flowing creek, eating food made on planks of wood, thinking of dog names for when the time is right, and trying to figure out why I ever left for the big city.
She’s quite a lady, that Colorado.

I try to figure that out every day. July 4th in the Blue Ridge Mountains didn’t help. Did you see much evidence of the beetle infestation out there?
Seeing as how I was born and bred in Indiana, I have no right to feel heartbreak when I hear Townes’ “My Proud Mountains.” But it makes me wonder why I ever left CO anyway. There isn’t a day goes by that I don’t feel the western pull.
not too much where I was, but there are signs everywhere and it’s a concern of everyone’s.
let’s move back?
Fucking fabulous.
This makes my eyes well up with tears. I am from the Colorado mountains, born and raised. I moved to California a few years ago for my girlfriend and work. I will be going to medical school this fall, but in California. I tried to go back to Colorado but they no longer consider me a resident because I’ve been gone for a few years.
Sigh, I will return to my home when I get the chance.
I love Colorado. I haven’t been since Spring ’08. I ask myself the same “why did I move to the city?” question all the time, but more frequently after I visit your blog!
Every time i got the chance , i travel far away from the big city. There isnt anything more beautiful than the nature itself !
i wanna see more please.
That VW. I love it. Whose is it?
ahh yes, a neighbor’s.
I must commend you on the choice of colors for your shirt, van, and… nature. Good mix.
